A Niece is a Little Bit of Childhood that can Never be Lost

~Only an aunt can give hugs like a mother,
keep secrets like a sister and share love like a friend~

Piper
Ela

There are two blessings for which I am thankful for and I have to mention in this next post.
Ela and Piper Hull are my two nieces. I just got to spend almost two weeks with them in Georgia where they live. Ela is two, full of energy with a big imagination! Piper I held when she was just a day old and I continued to hold until we had to leave. She looks so much like Ela did when Ela was a newborn. But her and Ela have differences for sure. Piper sleeps and eats and is chill with most everything (except car rides) and Ela dances and sings and loves car rides. Two very different nieces I couldn't live without. I'm so grateful to be their aunt. I look forward to spending more time with them as they grow and go through all different stages of life; I will be there for them and love them like sisters.

Healthy butterfingers? Yes, please!

Today I am guesting posting on this blog!
My sister, Claire is so sweet and wanted to share with everyone a recipe that I've become obsessed with...homemade healthy butterfingers. They come from here but I made my own version of them sugar-free so Claire, who is hypoglycemic, would be able to eat them. Check it out!

Wishing Leaves

Who doesn't love fall? There are so many great things about the autumn season...scarves, stockings, boots, pumpkin lattes, fall  break, thanksgiving, colorful trees, jumping in leaf piles(forget the raking part) relief from the hot summer, cooler jogs through the neighborhood, the list goes on....

One thing my sister Claire taught me when I was little was, the first leaf I caught during fall, I should make a wish upon it. I would always wish for something like, I wanna be a great musician! Or, I wish my cold would go away! Something that I thought up on the spot real fast and would forget about fifteen minutes later.

Each year, ridiculous as it is, I try to make a wish on the first leaf I catch. I feel I've learned a lot more in this one year than I have in my whole seventeen years, but this year especially, I went through a lot of growing up. The tricky thing is, is that you never stop learning. At this point in my life, it's about living each day to the fullest, not getting caught up in my future, taking it step by step. I was praying for this especially.

Last week it was sunny and beautiful and the leaves were falling from the trees in a cool autumn breeze. I went for a run and let the wind carry me (it was really windy). I didn't even see it coming. A perfect, yellow, golden leaf, smaller than my hand, not one to be easily caught....it blew right in front of my face and my first instinct was to grasp it and I did! And so of course, I made a wish...my wish to God, my prayer really, was for help and courage to take each day as it comes, for all the things I had been previously praying for.

This past Sunday, my youth pastor had a discussion about prayer. He reminded us that the most important part of praying is listening to God. This really struck me, obvious as it is, but I suddenly realized that when I pray, I do most of the talking. We also read through the Lord's prayer and talked about the meaning of the whole thing...
"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

Pastor David made a point that Jesus said, "Give us this day our daily bread." and that he didn't pray also for bread for tomorrow, or the next day, and the future. I quickly saw the importance of concentrating on today and not obsessing so much over the future, or the past.

Where are all these important life lessons leading?
Back to running...I was on another run today, and this time I was praying and asking God for guidance with  decision issues concerning college and my future and all that wonderful stuff us seniors love so much. I asked Him if He had something He wanted to speak to me, that He would just quiet my mind and help me listen. 30 yards further and another leaf fell right in front of my face, another small, yellow, golden leaf. I was reminded to take it day by day. God is holding my future. Concentrate on glorifying Him today.

This is all very simple Sunday school stuff, but to me it hit me like a news flash. It does each time, actually. He never stops reminding me that His unfailing love is enough, enough to take me through each day and give me joy in this life.

These two pictures below get me in the spirit of fall things, not to mention Halloween which is tomorrow!
Happy Halloween ya'll!

Homemade Face Wash

Homemade Face Wash

I'm really into eating all natural. In fact, I think it would be super cool to have my own farm someday. Last summer, my friend from Canada was talking about this sort of thing. She mentioned certain lotions that absorb into your skin to clear your wrinkles. What other products do we put on our skin and are absorbing with little to no thought of what they are doing to us? What she had to say made me wonder. If i cared so much about what I was feeding my body, I felt I should care at least a little about what I was putting on it. After all, it's almost the same thing, isn't? So I've browsed the internet for homemade, natural remedies for skin care.

Here is a concoction of my own that I'm sure is similar to some other recipes you've seen. You will go through little to no effort to achieve this face wash, though I'm hoping it would be worth it otherwise. Typically the four simple ingredients are already in your fridge or on your grocery list! This particular face wash is good for those who are acne prone, it isn't oily but it won't leave your skin feeling dry or irritated either. I do suggest you moisturize after rinsing if you already are doing so.

For those I know who have already tried the stuff, they noticed their faces had a more natural glow and it even left their skin feeling tighter and smoother. Remember to keep refrigerated!

A tip: make only little amounts at a time, enough you think you will use before the expiration date.

Also, blueberries and lemon juice are great a great add-in to the mix.

Blueberry is loaded vitamin C, E and other skin friendly nutrients.  One good thing about blueberries is that it can be adapted for all skin types. Healthy, soft, glowing and younger looking skin.

Applying raw lemon juice to the face is a popular remedy for acne and pimples.
Raw lemon juice is well known for it’s antioxidants and anti-cancer properties and has been used for centuries in order to cure many ailments. It is rich in Vitamin C.

What you will need is a small jar with lid (at least a cup)

CREATING...
INGREDIENTS
~1 drop of vanilla
~1 cup of plain, all natural yogurt
~1 teaspoon of  all natural honey
~1/2 cup of rolled oats

Grind oats in coffee grinder or food processor until very fine

spoon yogurt into jar and mix in ground oats, honey and vanilla

For gifts I suggest adding each ingredient into the jar as layers as seen in the little image above and tie pretty ribbon around the lid.

USING...

FOR FACE WASH~apply to wet skin. Massage face as you rinse well.

FOR FACE MASK~wet face and rub on mixture. Leave on for five minutes or less then rinse.

A Walk in Chinqua Penn

A while ago, when the weather was still very warm and the trees hadn't begun to change color yet, the three of us, Nan(my sister), Gabe and I all went for a walk in Chinqua Penn. It was a beautiful day!

This is the first time I've driven all three of us somewhere.
Usually we pile into Gabe's pick up truck that has a three seat bench.
I hate driving into town where there are lots of stop lights and people crossing the streets and cars going really slow...but I love to drive the country roads where we live so for once I got behind the wheel.

Nan's new invention for Clyde. He walks so much better side by side.

Bambi!

Nan and Gabe were very patient as I stopped in the middle of the trail for fifteen minutes trying to get these pictures

That's water :p

Best friends for life!

Gabe's photography skills!

Little Niagara's creek

power walking!

Despite the big water stain on his shirt I think this would make a great profile picture!

coming to the end of our walk
It was so nice to get away for a little while and be surrounded by nature.
This was the little bit of summer we had left.
I'm looking forward to fall now!
